[vPostMaster] mail moving very slowly

Around 1:45am our spamassassin daemon crashed, as it's been doing fairly 
often recently. When I checked on the servers this morning, I noticed 
all the new spam, and restarted spamassassin.

Now, for whatever reason, mail seems to be moving very very slowly 
through our system. I'm sending mail in from outside accounts, seeing it 
accepted in the maillog, but not seeing the delivery to 
/var/spool/vpostmaster.

Restarting postfix seems to push a couple more through, but our mailq 
currently shows 604 requests. Test emails I sent to myself hours ago 
still have not shown up.

Flushing the queue doesn't seem to force delivery. In fact it seems to 
make things worse.
