Sounds like your saslauthd may not have the rimap mechanism in it.  I believe 
there is a command-line option to saslauthd that will let it print out the 
supported mechanisms, see "man saslauthd" for the man page for it and see if 
it's showing rimap or not.  If not, you'll have to investigate why your 
saslauthd doesn't have that built in.
