[vpostmaster] importing /spool/.../Maildir/cur/ into thunderbird

Recently my mail server died and i had to switch to having gmail host my mail for me but i was able to recover the spool directory for my domain. i have found the message folder  /spool/.../Maildir/cur/  but when i set that as my local directory for Thunderbird it gets the sub folders, but the inbox shows up as a bunch of subfolders with nothing in them named the same things a the files that contain the messages on the disk, is there a way to get it so those messages show up as normal?
