[vPostMaster] Problem with SMTP auth after moving to Debian etch

Hello,

Well I've been saying for months that I was going t omove our mail server to
Debian Etch - and today I finally did it.

There is only one thing that is not working - I cannot send out through our
mail server. Fortunately this effects only a tiny handful of people.

Outgoing SMTP is not broken, I can send fine from the webmail interface or the
commandline.

All incoming mail/smtp connections are fine, dovecot is fine - checking mail
is fine.

When I try to send an outgoing message with KMail I get the following error in
the error logs:

May 13 14:10:13 mail postfix/smtpd[6226]: warning: SASL authentication
failure: Password verification failed
May 13 14:10:13 mail postfix/smtpd[6226]: warning:
cvs.claborn.net[12.171.179.98]: SASL PLAIN authentication failed:
authentication failure
May 13 14:10:13 mail postfix/smtpd[6226]: lost connection after AUTH from
cvs.claborn.net[12.171.179.98]
May 13 14:10:13 mail postfix/smtpd[6226]: disconnect from
cvs.claborn.net[12.171.179.98]

In KMail (mail client) I get this warning:
-----------------
Sending failed:

Your SMPT server does not support PLAIN

Choose a different authentication method

The server responded: "5.7.0 Error: authentication failed: authentication
failure"
--------------

On the web I saw someone suggest adding -r to OPTIONS
in /etc/default/saslauthd. I did that and restarted saslauthd, dovecot and
postfix. Nothing changed - pop3 and SMTP delivery still works but I can't
authenticate to send outgoing email.

Does anyone know what's going on, or what I need to fix?

I can post contents of config files if need be.

Thanks,

	JW
