[vPostMaster] no X-Sam status in headers spamassasin not working?

So i just noticed, while tightening vpostmaster settings for a user, 
that i am not, in fact, getting X-SPAM-STATUS or the like in my emails. 
this leads me to think my emails are not going through spamassasin. i 
have turned debug on spamd and yet, i do not see anything in mail logs 
that spamc is being called or used.

i have no whitelist entries at all.

one odd thing:

other than that every few minutes, i don't see it being called, save for 
it's self tests when starting.

this and lack of headers it's not working... thoughts?
